Church and colonial parish records often substitute for vital registration. Anglican/Episcopal parish vestry books, Baptist and Methodist circuit books, Presbyterian sessions, Lutheran and Reformed congregations in the Valley, Catholic parishes, Quaker meetings, and African American congregations each have distinct archives.
